Passion for Missions

January 8, 2014 By Elaine L. O'Neill Leave a Comment

From the time I was an elementary student, I always wanted to be a missionary. I loved hearing testimonies of those who served the Lord in a foreign country and I believed that someday, I too, would be full-time overseas serving the Lord. My vision was to become involved in foreign missions and I had two wonderful opportunities to go to India and South Africa on short term mission trips. As time went on, I saw Jesus clearly open the doors and equip my whole being for home mission work.

For years, I had a strong desire to leave my hometown to serve God somewhere else.

In my senior year of high school, I was sure that the Lord wanted me to go to a college in another state. Instead, God made it very clear to me that I was to attend the state school, eight miles from my home. As I graduated from college, I told everyone I knew that I would never teach in my hometown and that is exactly where God placed me. When I was engaged to Dennis, a seminary student, I eagerly looked forward to a pastoral call in a far off place. As we were married, God called him to pastor our home church. Each time I thought I should be planted somewhere else, God showed me He had different plans.

I watched the Lord unfold His plans before my eyes. He wanted me to be a missionary in my high school, college, church, neighborhood, job and wherever He would lead me.

My very own home also became my mission field as my husband and I raised 32 foster and adopted children. where I serve with my whole heart.

The name Elaine means “shining light”. My Maiden name Blanck is taken from blank or in spanish, blanco which means “white”.  I am to be a shining white light in this world of darkness. My mission in life is found in Acts 26:18.” To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”

God called Paul for a purpose. Acts 26:16 says, “But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.”

Promises: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17

Partnering with God: Do you know what God’s plan and purpose for you is? Ask Him. Write down some thoughts on why God placed you here on earth, in your family, in your church or in your job. He will show you His plan and direction.

Let me know your thoughts!

Partnering with God,

Elaine
